The family of Benny Chin has set up a blog, Wake Up with Dad, to further future communication with all friends. Pls keep on remembering Benny and his family in your prayers:
FES & AFC 前總幹事錢北斗先生 (斗叔),於今日下午三時左右中風,已送往伊利莎伯醫院救治,情況危殆,請懇切記念。
Please pray for Mr. Benny Chin (former executive director of AFC & FES) as he got a stroke and has just completed a brain surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Kowloon-HK). Benny is still in coma, and the coming few hours until the morning is the most critical time for him.
Benny's daughter was in China and has rushed back to HK at midnight. His son has just left Vancouver this afternoon. and is on his way to HK. Please pray for the Chin's family at this critical moment.
What a blessing to attend Rev. Sam Chan's new course at Tyndale on "Leadership in the Multicultural Postmodern Church"! Amidst of all the hectic schedules, Pastor Sam's class has been a weekly refresher for my mind & soul! Here is a simple but inspiring quote on leadership, 100% original from Pastor Sam:
If leadership is to influence or change God's people towards God's purpose, then the finest hour, the defining moment of leadership is the time when conflicts and challenges are with us.
The BONUS of my YVR trip last week was a super-short (19-minute) visit of the Regent Bookstore. Out of surprise, 2 of my collegues & I all bought the SAME book: Darrell W. Johnson's newest book on preaching:
The Glory of Preaching: Participating in God's Transformation of the World Length: 278 pages Publisher: IVP (Academic) Published: August 2009 ISBN: 978-0-8308-3853-0
Here are a few powerful lines from the prologue:
I believe the preaching of the Word of God changes the world. I believe individuals, neighborhoods, cities and nations are changed by the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. For in preaching the good news of Jesus Christ......we are participating with the living God in God’s ongoing transformation of the world.
An evening lecture on the same topic is available (MP3): http://www.regentaudio.com/RGDL3900H
By the way, I also received the news that Darrell Johnson has resigned from Regent and was installed last Sunday as the Senior Minister of Vancouver's First Baptist church. Listen to Rev. Johnson's sermon "PRIORITY ONE" (Sep 6) about his DREAMs for First Baptist, as well as a heart-breaking sharing about the recent tragedy of his beloved son just seven weeks ago:
Dr. Paul Stevens (Regent College Professor Emeritus of Marketplace Theology and Leadership) was recently interviewed on CBC's Tapestry program on "The Spirituality of Canoeing". Based on an essay Paul wrote called The Song of the Paddle, he outlines four reasons why he believes that canoeing is a spiritual experience.
Paul's interview begins around the 35 minute mark of the program.
